A Manuscript (MSCT) is the work that an author submits to a publisher, editor, or producer for publication in a scientific journal. Typically, it contains an introduction, a highly selective presentation of scientific findings (e.g. results of a clinical study) followed by an extensive discussion and review of literature, which are supported by key literature references. In addition, a MSCT contains a method section detailing the methods used to obtain the presented results.
With the advent of desktop publishing, almost anyone can prepare a text that appears professionally typeset. However, many publishers have extensive ‘instructions to authors’ and require authors to submit MSCTs within their respective guidelines. Medical writers can ensure a MSCT satisfies all journal requirements, conveys the key messages in a logical structure and uses a clear and concise writing style, while being conform with the latest spelling and grammar rules. In this manner, medical writers can facilitate expedited publication of scientific results.
